So my beau and I had grand ideas this year for our Halloween costume. We were going to do Dr. Who. He would obviously be Dr. Who and I was going to be a weeping angel, a scary stone creature from the show. The life-size stone angel is a project indeed and I am realizing that I am not sure I have left enough to make the Halloween costume.
Correction. I definitely have not left myself enough time to make the costume.
Looking around online, I have found a lot of inspiration. One of my favorites has been this silent film star costume from the blog Shrimp Salad Circus. Honestly, I think we all already have the clothes in our vintage closet to make this happen, it just needs to be colorless.
I always love something inspired by vintage or old movies or history. No, the Dr. Who thing isn’t vintage, but we trade off. One year he chooses the costume, the other I choose. It is his year this year and so Dr. Who it was to be. Last year I chose the costume and it we did Psycho. He put on a grey wig and a granny dress for me. Gotta love a man who will do that for you.
Black and Grey Makeup
The greyscale makeup is the key to this costume. I suggest a quality grey face paint combined with a no-color setting powder. Don’t cheap out on the grey paint if you don’t have to on this one. Cheap body makeup doesn’t have good coverage and can be a mess.
Finish the makeup using greyscale eyeshadows and longwear black lipstick.

There are quite a few greyscale black and white makeup tutorials on YouTube. Here’s a simple one from the very talented and adorable ahitsrosa.
Greyscale Hair
The black and white movie hair can be accomplished a few different ways. If your natural hair is light to medium tone, a grey spray in haircolor will wash out in the shower. If your hair is very dark, but not black, try a black spray in color. Or you can just go for a black wig already styled in a vintage hairdo, which will make the whole process faster with less mess.

You’ve probably seen the Weeping Angel costume that’s been all over the blogs, but have you seen her step-by-step for it? Probably impossible to do in time but maybe file it away for next year!
