When I wrote this post, I started worrying that I had written it already. I searched thru my history and found that I had in fact written about turbans or some aspect of the turban 4 other times since I started writing this blog 5 years ago. Apparently I like them. But I was relieved to find out that I had not actually written this same post before, so I continue.
Did I write I love a good turban? I think it is up to us retro ladies to take our bad hair days and turn them into the perfect opportunity for a turban. It is super easy. All you need is a scarf that is long enough to wrap around your head at least twice. It can be a long, skinny scarf or square. It doesn’t matter which.
Here is how it looks with a thin scarf or this could be a square scarf bunched together more.
1. Center the scarf at the nape of the neck at the lower hairline.
2. Cross the ends over each other.
3. Spin the ends around each other so they cross over to the opposite side of the head.
4. Wrap the ends back around to the nape of of the neck down at the hairline.
5. Tie the ends together behind the head so that it blends in with the rest of the scarf.
Here is how to do this with a square scarf so that the entire head is covered. You can’t get the turban affect with a bandana because the bandana isn’t long enough to wrap twice. But there are so many vintage scarves that are out there at thrift stores and vintage clothing stores just begging for a good home.
1. Fold the square diagonally in half. Center the fold at the nape of the neck at the hairline. Follow the same steps at this point as the previous scarf.

I like Joan’s bedazzled one. I will put a brooch on my scarf turban. But they slip all over the place. Any advice?

Great post! I do love a scarf turban. What did you do with the points of the square scarf at the top of the turban? I can’t quite see what you’ve done with them.
